ROLE DETAILS
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide accurate and effective interpretation services between the source language (Pashto) and at least one non-Afghan language in real-time.
- Deliver high-quality interpretation for both remote (video/telephonic) and in-person assignments, maintaining the original meaning, tone, and cultural nuances.
- Prepare for assignments by familiarizing yourself with relevant subject matter, glossaries, and terminology specific to each industry.
- Adhere to strict confidentiality and data security protocols, especially when handling sensitive information in medical, legal, or governmental settings.
- Utilize and adapt to various interpretation platforms and technologies, including Zoom, RingCentral, Microsoft Teams, and Google Meet.
- Maintain a professional and unobtrusive demeanor during all interpretation sessions, upholding the highest ethical standards.
- Communicate proactively with project management to confirm availability, report on project status, and address any logistical issues.
- Drive to various in-person assignment locations, which may include hospitals, clinics, courthouses, schools, or other community sites, and be reimbursed for mileage or other transportation costs (Taxi/Uber) as per company policy.
- Participate in mandatory training programs, including HIPAA for healthcare projects, court approval processes for legal work, and other compliance-related sessions.
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
Preference will be given to current university students or those holding a university degree.
LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY
Native-level fluency in the source language (Pashto) and professional proficiency in at least one other non-Afghan language.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Strong verbal communication skills, including clear enunciation, listening comprehension, and the ability to work in high-pressure situations.
CULTURAL CONTEXT
Deep understanding of the cultural nuances of the language, with the ability to navigate regionalisms, dialects, and idioms effectively.
TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
For remote work, candidates must have a reliable laptop, high-speed internet connection, and a quiet, professional workspace.
MOBILITY
Must hold a valid driver's license and be able to drive to in-person assignments. Those who cannot drive will be reimbursed for mileage or other transportation costs (Taxi/Uber) as per company policy.
PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT
Commitment to a professional dress code for all assignments, with specific guidance provided during training for various settings (e.g., medical, legal).
