Remote Freelance Translator - Pashto

Job Summary

Afghan Language Services (ALS) is seeking highly skilled and culturally fluent remote freelance translators to join our global network. This role is a contract-based position with project-based pay, ideal for native-led language specialists who are committed to accuracy, cultural sensitivity, and confidentiality. The successful candidate will play a critical role in bridging communication gaps for Afghan communities worldwide, working on diverse and impactful projects across multiple industries. 

ROLE DETAILS

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Translate a wide range of written materials accurately and effectively from the source language (Pashto) into one or more non-Afghan languages, and vice versa. 
  • Ensure that all translated content preserves the original meaning, tone, and cultural nuances for the target audience. 
  • Handle sensitive and confidential information with the utmost discretion and adhere to strict data security protocols. 
  • Manage multiple translation projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks efficiently to meet tight deadlines. 
  • Conduct thorough research to ensure accurate translation of specialized terminology and industry-specific concepts. Our projects span fields including healthcare, legal, education, government, and technology. 
  • Utilize Microsoft 365 and other relevant software to produce high-quality work, ensuring consistency and adherence to client specifications. 
  • Participate in required training and ongoing quality assurance monitoring provided by Afghan Language Services. 
  • Collaborate effectively with project managers and the talent acquisition team to clarify project requirements and deliver the highest standard of service. 

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Requirements&Qualifications

EDUCATION

Preference will be given to current university students or those holding a university degree, reflecting our commitment to integrating academic mastery with lived experience.

LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY

Native-level fluency in the source language (Pashto) and professional proficiency in at least one other non-Afghan language.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Strong verbal communication skills, including clear enunciation, listening comprehension, and the ability to work in high-pressure situations.

CULTURAL CONTEXT

Deep understanding of the cultural context and nuances of the language, with the ability to navigate regionalisms, dialects, and idioms.

 Proficiency with Microsoft 365, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

 Previous experience in a translation role is highly desirable.

  • Proficiency in Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) tools is a plus.
  •  Excellent time management and organizational skills.

Compensation and Benefits

This is a freelance contract position with project-based pay. Rates vary depending on the complexity of the project and language pair. As an independent contractor, you will enjoy the flexibility of a remote schedule.
